How To Effectively Follow Up With Customers

It doesn’t matter what type of business you are in.  Your top priority is normally to reach new customers.  The more customers you have, the more money you will make.  Most business owners have an amazing grasp of this concept.

You’re eager to expand your audience, make new connections, and ultimately, grow your business.

But let’s think about something….. Once your business has reached a new audience member, or even if you’ve already delivered a great experience to a first-time customer, what are you doing to get your new customer back to your business?

What is it that regularly causes marketing to fail?   The lack of follow up.  Every day of the week, business owners do a fabulous job marketing their business to their target clients and customers, but, then they let themselves and their businesses down by failing to follow up.  This creates a revolving door that will have you constantly spinning your wheels.  Constantly seeking new customers and building your list, while allowing existing customers to walk out the back door is not wise. 

Are you guilty of these major business killers?

  • Failure to gather contact information.
  • Failure to follow up with new leads.
  • Not rescuing lost customers.
  • Failure to follow up with referrals.
  • No instant follow up with new customers.

Dropping the ball with any of these WILL allow money to fall from your grasp.  You don’t just want one sale.  You want repeat customers.  Customers that will repeatedly invest in your products.   So what should you do?

There are 4 easy steps that I use to effectively follow up with customers.

Text

Sendhub is an online text service.   You can upload, add, edit, and manage all your contacts to streamline sending messages.   It has an online messaging box.   All your messages are automatically organized and collected in an online dashboard.   I use this service to communicate with my customers, my downline and leads.  Why do I love this service?  Replies to my text messages are automatically routed to my in-box, cell phone or e-mail address, allowing me to respond timeously to customer requests or confirmations.     A simple “thank you” text can do wonders for your reputation of providing good efficient service – your clients will feel appreciated and will be more likely to buy from you again in the future.   It gives you the ability to reach thousands of people within seconds.    I love this service because you can schedule texts to go to groups or individuals at any time.  That way I can remain engaged even if I am traveling or unable to sit in my office.

Blog

From make up  to cookware, direct sales businesses are everywhere.  Does it seem like only a few consultants build highly successful businesses.  What are those highly successful business owners doing.  They are branding themself instead of their products.  They are identifying their nitch and drawing attention to themselves, not just their product.   You can’t just promote your direct sales.  You must add value to your potential customers life.  Blogging is an inexpensive way to stand out and reach thousands of potential customers. 

What should you blog about?  Product reviews, specials, incentives, your personal experiences.  Most importantly, your blog should solve a problem or answer a question.  If you are selling skin care, you should blog about skin care regimens, anti aging products, or acne prevention.  If you are selling weight loss products, blog about proper eating habits, effective work out routines or educate regarding healthy foods.

The point is,  you must stand out from the rest.  Identify your nitch and rock it.  Brand you and your expertise regarding a topic and watch your sales increase!

Email Marketing

Mailchimp is an effective email marketing tool you can use to distribute your content, communicate with customers and follow up with leads.  I mostly enjoy the ability to create and schedule automated emails that follow up on purchases, nurture leads, and provide product recommendations to customers.   Automation allows you to follow up with a hands free approach. 

You also have the ability to have people opt in to receive your content.  List building is BIG!  If you don’t have a list of people you can consistently contact regarding your products, you are missing out on many potential sales. 

Campaign Mailer

Campaign Mailer is specifically for Avon Representatives.  My life has become more and more busy.  This service allows you to mail brochures to customers at a fraction of the cost and time.    It is helpful that I now have a datebase of all my customers that prefer to shop using my brochure.  I LOVE this service because it keeps my products in front of people.  Once a month, I go online and mail brochures to them.  They are then able to order online through my website or contact me to submit their order.  But, I don’t wait for them to contact me.  I normally use Sendhub to text everyone that receives a brochure in the mail to confirm they received their brochure and see if they need anything.  Easy breezy.  

The moral of the story is.  FOLLOW UP!!!!  Identify which method you will use to follow up and DO IT!
